Laura Walters was born in New York. She moved to Texas with her family as a child and has been here ever since. She is a graduate of Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary where she earned a Master of Divinity Degree in 2011. She also holds Bachelor of Business Administration (1988) and Juris Doctorate degrees (1992) from The University of Texas. Laura enjoys all creative ministries, including leading worship, planning adult education classes and events, and building relationships through the mission of the church. She currently serves as the Associate Pastor at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Austin where she leads the worship, mission, and adult ministry committees. She has also been involved in initiating and planning a visioning process for the leadership of the church. She worked as a chaplain for the Seton Family of Hospitals and, prior to seminary, served as Director for Womens Ministry in a local congregation. Laura is active in service to Mission Presbytery and the greater church. She is a member of the newly-formed Immigration Task Force for Mission Presbytery and is an instructor for the Fall 2016 Introduction to Preaching class at Austin Seminary. In 2014, she was elected to serve as a commissioner to the 212th General Assembly. Over the last several years, Laura has been a keynote speaker for a number of local conferences and retreats. Laura and husband Mark have three teenage children: Katie, John, and Jane. Laura is active in her children's school and extracurricular activities. She also enjoys reading, running, watching college football, and spending time with her family's horse, Kemah.
